CALGARY _ ABB Inc., a global power and automation technology company, says it has acquired the assets of Ber-Mac Electrical and Instrumentation Ltd., a move that expands the European company's presence in the Western Canadian oilpatch.
Financial terms of the deal, announced Wednesday, were not revealed.
Ber-Mac provides industrial automation, electrical and instrumentation design and other services to companies in the oil and gas and other industries.
"The acquisition is perfectly aligned with ABB's strategy to strengthen its footprint in Western Canada,'' said Enrique Santacana, president and chairman of ABB Inc. and regional manager of ABB North America.
``At the same time, this business will complement ABB's offerings, and benefit from ABB's vast network of global resources."
Bernie McCaffrey, president of Ber-Mac, said that ``accessing ABB's global resources will allow us to provide greater capacity to our existing customers.''
Ber-Mac employs more than 400 people at 14 sites in Alberta and British Columbia.
The ABB group operates in 100 countries and employs 120,000 people. In Canada, the Swiss-based company has about 2,000 employees.
